What Do the Different Highlights on the DC Screen Mean?

On the Data Collection screen, sometimes data is shown with certain highlights to indicate a specific status associated with that datum and/or that animal. To the uninformed user, these can appear daunting. Luckily, there is a legend that can be opened at any time which provides an explanation of each of the highlights on the DC screen. Here’s how to access it:

1. From the Studies menu, highlight a study and press [Collect Data].

2. Press [Show Legend].

3. The legend shows all of the different statuses a datum and/or an animal might have. The following is a list of each status, with additional explanation provided where necessary:

Animal is fated, cannot collect measurements: Whether or not a fated animal can have measurements collected on it depends on the particular task being collected. You can change this setting for a task in Task Details: [New]/[Edit] > Tasks/Measurements > Task Details

Animal is fated, can collect measurements: See above.

Animal is fated and alerts exist: Once an alert has been triggered, it’ll be displayed for that animal even once it has been fated.

Collected Measurements are Committed: Data that is “committed” has been saved. This data can still be amended.

Auto-calculation is disabled: This refers to the automatic calculation of dosing volumes based on body weight.

Measurement/Task has triggered an alert: As it implies, a measurement or task has triggered an alert you set up in the Study Design.

Info Column: This merely refers to the columns on the left side of the DC screen, which show the animals, pending tasks, etc.

Prepare to perform Scheduled task/measurements: This pertains to timed tasks. Yellow indicates a task is scheduled to be collected soon.

Perform/Collect Scheduled task/measurement now: A timed task is scheduled to be collected at this moment.

Scheduled task/measurement is past due: A timed task which was scheduled to be collected was not collected during the scheduled time.

Multiple fields are required to calculate and save this measurement: This can refer to a couple of situations. For instance, if you have a task such as a tumor volume task which requires three values to be collected for the calculation to be completed, and only one or two have them have been entered, this notification will occur. Alternatively, if you have enabled comment columns (from the DC screen: Tasks/Measurements > Column for all Tasks) and write a comment for a task for which no data has been entered, then the column will be highlighted, as it will not be saved without the relevant data.
